Welcome to West Houston Zen Center

Welcome to the Website for West Houston Zen Center! The West Houston Zen Center, incorporated under the name of the Southwestern Son (Zen) Academy, is a non-profit Texas Corporation whose charter and membership is dedicated to proving the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha through Zen meditation and inquiry. The West Houston Zen Center is also home to Nam Son Sa Temple that supports the devotional practice of members in the traditional Korean manner. The West Houston Center was established in 1986.

Spring and Summer Schedule 2012

Our regular schedule for Zen practice includes sitting meditations periods held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 9:00 a.m. Each practice session has two sitting periods of 25 minutes with one 10 minute walking period. Periodically, we have short inspirational readings, encouragement talks, discussions, playing of a CD, a guest speaker or special event. On Sundays we also regularly have a silent tea ceremony and chanting practice (Heart Sutra in English, Great Dharani and others). Visitors and new or visiting Zen practitioners are always welcome! Please try to come fifteen minutes early in order to get oriented.
